    Covid-19: 135 new cases in Sarawak, zero deaths today

    KUCHING (Feb 10): Sarawak recorded 135 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 6,006 cases, said State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

    “Of the 135 cases, 83 were detected in Sibu, 19 in Bintulu, nine in Miri. six in Dalat, five in Julau, three in Kuching, three in Betong, two in Kapit, two in Lundu and one each in Kanowit, Serian and Beluru,” the deputy chief minister said during a press conference on the daily Covid-19 update in the state today.

    Out of Sibu District’s 83 cases, 56 were individuals screened through active case detection (ACD) due to contact with positive cases, 20 were results of screening at healthcare centre in Sibu District, three were results of screening involving symptomatic individuals, three involve screening of healthcare workers in the district, and one from the Pasai Cluster.

    In Bintulu District, 10 cases were from the Rakut Cluster, eight cases from screening through ACD due to contact with positive cases, and one involving screening of a symptomatic individual at a healthcare centre in Bintulu District.

    In Miri District, seven were individuals screened through ACD due to contact with positive cases, and two from the Seruas Cluster.

    All the six cases in Dalat District were individuals screened through ACD in localities under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

    In Julau District, all five cases were individuals screened through ACD due to contact with positive cases.

    Betong’s three cases were also screened from ACD of contacts to positive cases.

    In Kuching District, two imported cases were individuals returning from high-risk infection area in the country (Selangor), while one was an individual screened through ACD of contacts to positive case.

    In Kapit District, one case was from the Pasai Cluster, while one was a result of ACD for contact to positive case.

    Both cases in Lundu District were from the Pasai Cluster.

    In Kanowit, the case was a result of ACD due to contact with positive case.

    In Serian, the case was detected after undergoing a pre-surgery screening at a healthcare facility in the district.

    In Beluru, the case was a result of ACD due to contact with positive case, and it is classified as an imported case because the individual got the infection from Miri District.

    Meanwhile, Uggah informed that there were 125 cases of recovery and discharge for the day, with 69 from Sibu Hospital, 22 from Kapit Hospital, 14 from Miri Hospital, nine from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), and one from Sarikei Hospital.

    “As of today, 4,101 or 68.28 per cent of total cases have recovered and discharged.

    “A total of 1,827 cases are still being treated at hospitals. Out of that, 907 are in Sibu Hospital, 372 in Miri Hospital, 187 in Kapit Hospital, 170 in Bintulu Hospital, 161 in SGH, 28 in Sarikei Hospital, and one each in Limbang and Lawas Hospitals,” he said.

    There were 171 new persons-under-investigation (PUI) reported for the day, with 19 still awaiting lab results.

    This brings the cumulative total of PUIs to 17,851 to-date.

    As for persons-under-surveillance (PUS), there were 229 individuals who have checked into designated quarantine centres for their compulsory quarantine Wednesday. This brings the total of current PUS to 5,809 individuals at 84 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centres statewide.

    To-date, those who have completed their quarantine period numbered at 62,432.

    As there are no deaths reported, the state’s death toll remains at 55.
