BINTULU: The body of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) enforcement officer Kavin Raj Multy, who perished in a road accident, arrived at his father’s residence in Sungai Petani, Kedah today.

Kavin, 23, had been stationed at MMEA Bintulu Zone and was killed in a road accident on June 26.

The remains were transported by Mas Cargo service from Miri Airport yesterday at 2.50pm and arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Aiport. The remains were received by relatives and friends at his hometown.

His father Multy Maraiappan, 51, could not hold back his tears upon seeing the vehicle carrying the body of his son arrive at the compound of the residence at 1am.

According to MMEA Bintulu zone acting director commander Maritim Effendy Mohamed Fadil, a special ceremony was held before the remains transported back to Sg Petani. Personnel of MMEA Bintulu were present to pay their last respects.

“The remains arrived at his father’s residence at 1am, accompanied by a team with full honours before handed over to the next-of-kin” he said.

Effendy described Kavin’s passing as a great loss to MMEA as he was very dedicated and disciplined in his work and conveyed his condolences on behalf of MMEA Bintulu to the family members.

MMEA also called on members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in the police investigation.

Kavin sustained serious head injuries after his motorcycle collided with a Land Cruiser vehicle at Jalan Old Airport at about 3.20pm.

Initial investigations revealed that the Kavin was travelling on his bike before colliding with the vehicle driven by a 24-year-old woman.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Bintulu traffic investigation and enforcement chief Insp Jeffery Jembol when contacted said so far, no witness had come forward.

“We are still waiting for the blood chemical test for further action,” he said.
