Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd is planning to introduce more streaming services under its banner, according to a report by The Edge. At this time, the company offers three existing platforms including Astro Go, HBO Go, and iQIYI.
The site stated that the decision was revealed after the group’s annual general meeting yesterday. Company chief executive officer Henry Tan said that Astro will aggregate more streaming services to be the digital content provider of choice for its customers.
However, the company did not reveal what other platforms that are being considered to be included in its current list. And it did not say when these new streaming services are expected to be available either.
Astro remains to be one of the most preferred choice of providers in Malaysia, especially in the subscription-based TV service. But with the rise of video streaming platforms, it would make sense for the company to up its ante for its internet-based content in order to compete with the likes of Netflix.
