KUCHING: Sarawak again recorded no new Covid-19 positive cases today, making it the fifth consecutive day of zero cases since the last case was recorded on Sunday.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) secretariat in a statement said the total cumulative tally of positive cases in the state therefore remains at 571.

The death toll from the virus in the state also remains at 17, as no new deaths were reported.

SDMC also reported one new recovery today, involving a patient who was discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The number of those who have recovered from the disease and have been discharged now stands at 545 or 95.45 per cent out of the total Covid-19 cases.

According to the statistics in the statement, only nine active cases are still being treated at hospitals and none of them are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Four are at SGH in Kuching, one at Sibu Hospital and four at Bintulu Hospital.

SDMC also recorded 22 new persons-under-investigation (PUI) cases with two of them still awaiting their lab test results, while the rest tested negative for Covid-19.

At the same time, the committee recorded 98 new persons-under-surveillance (PUS) cases today, bringing the total cumulative tally to 837 PUS cases which are quarantined in 13 hotels across the state.

In Kuching, there are 285 PUS cases, Miri (333), Bintulu (71), Limbang (20) and Sibu (128).

Three districts – Kuching, Bintulu and Sibu – remained classified as yellow zones while 37 other districts in the state are green zones.

SDMC also reported 1,203 vehicles were checked yesterday at six road blocks erected for Ops Benteng now being carried out to prevent foreigners from sneaking into Malaysia.
