Epic Games Tries Again To Bring Fortnite Back To Apple App Store

Epic Games has had its breakout game Fortnite booted from the Apple App Store back in August. The former is trying to get its game back on the platform. And it has filed for a preliminary injunction to that effect.

The motion was filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. In it, the company says all it wants is “for the Court to stop Apple from retaliating against Epic for daring to challenge Apple’s misconduct while our antitrust case proceeds”. Which is a bold statement to make considering Epic intentionally violated Apple’s App Store guidelines to prove its point.

The document also mentions that Epic Games previously had over 116 million Fortnite players on iOS. This, according to CNN, makes it the game’s biggest platform, larger than its PlayStation 4, Xbox One Nintendo Switch, Android or even PC player base. And this largest market is now isolated from the rest of the player base, having lost crossplay. This began with the game’s latest season, the content of which iOS and Mac players don’t get access to.

In late August, Epic Games was allowed by the US courts to keep supporting Unreal Engine on the Apple App Store. The next hearing for both companies is still set for 28 September,
