Monster Hunter Rise For Nintendo Switch To Release On 26 March 2021

Capcom has announced the next Monster Hunter game, called Monster Hunter Rise, for the Nintendo Switch. The announcement was made during the recent Nintendo Direct, which was centred around titles from third parties.

Monster Hunter Rise adopts a lot of features from the very successful Monster Hunter: World and its Iceborne expansion. But it also introduces a lot of new ones of its own, which makes for a gameplay experience quite unlike a traditional Monster Hunter title.

Most notable of them is the Wire Bug. With it, you throw a grappling hook into the air, the bug catches it and pulls you forward. Not only is this used for traversal, but it’s also a mobility option during combat.

And on the subject of traversal, Monster Hunter Rise features “better” vertical movement. Air quotes there necessary, because probably not everyone will see vertical wall running as an improvement.

Another addition is a new type of companion called a Palamute. This is a canine companion that you can ride around the map while out of combat, and helps you fight while in. Palicoes are still around, and you can take any combination of two companions into a hunt. In multiplayer, every hunter can take one along, which is quite the departure from previous iterations of the game.

There are other additions too, such as new monsters, as well as what looks like new weapon types. There will be a few new amiibos to go with the new game as well.

Monster Hunter Rise is set to release on 26 March 2021, which is just about half a year after the final update to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Hopefully the more powerful Nintendo Switch will be ready by the time the game gets released.
