Last month, TM has added 500Mbps and 800Mbps plans into its unifi Home Broadband line-up. Alongside respective download speed, both plans come with an identical upload speed of 200Mbps.
Barely a month later though, the company has quietly slashed the upload speed for the 500Mbps plan to 100Mbps. First reported by SoyaCincau, a customer in Parit Buntar has experienced the disparity first hand who then demanded an explanation from TM but was told by the staff at TMpoint that the 200Mbps was actually “a mistake”.
TM has even updated the Home Broadband and unifi Your World section of unifi’s official website to reflect the reduced upload speed for the 500Mbps plan. However, the company missed one spot during what can be seen as its attempt to cover the “mistake”.
We have discovered that TM didn’t replace the original FAQ document for unifi Your World promo on the website. The document which dated 19 August 2020 as indicated by its title, showed original 200Mbps upload speed for the 500Mbps plan and this is the same document that we screenshot for our report back in August.
You can download a copy of the document right here and compare it yourself. While TM forgot to update this particular document, the company has edited the main FAQ document for unifi to display the newly reduced upload speed though.
All in all, TM should have been upfront about the speed reduction and publicly notify its customers. Instead, the company choose to do it in secrecy for unknown reasons and now faced the possibility of regulatory actions as the customer who highlighted the upload disparity has since filed a complaint to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission regarding it.
