Twitter Aims To Provide More Context On Trending Topics Via Representative Tweets

If you use Twitter frequently, there might be times where you would be wondering why certain topics become trending. To help answer this question, Twitter earlier this week has announced that it is implementing what the company called “Representative Tweets”.

A representative tweet is meant to provide more context on a trending topic. This particular tweet is chosen with the help of Twitter’s algorithms as well as with input from the platform’s curation team.

In addition to that, Twitter will also be adding a brief description to the trending topic which will be performed by its curation team. As shown in the screenshots above, both the description and representative tweet are being pinned to the trending topic itself.

For starters, the Representative Tweets feature is being applied to Twitter’s iOS and Android mobile apps while it will be implemented on the web at a later time. On another hand, the description feature can be found on all three platforms.

Unfortunately, Malaysia is not part of the first wave markets to receive these new implementations though. We’ll keep you notified once we hear more about it from Twitter.
