Netflix Teams Up With Ubisoft To Make Live-Action Assassin’s Creed Series

In what can only be described as a strange and interesting turn of events, Netflix announced that it has partnered up with French video game studio, Ubisoft, to develop a live-action series of one of its best-selling franchise, Assassin’s Creed.

No details of the series’ plot yet exists, as Netflix is currently on the hunt for a showrunner that would be able to bring it to life. On that note, Ubisoft’s Film and Television division already have two executive producers on the project.

As a bit of background, the Assassin’s Creed franchise first kicked off in 2007, where it first introduced gamers to the world and ongoing war between the Assassin Brotherhood and Templars. Since then, the series has spanned more than 20 titles, plus the odd mobile title here and there. The latest installment, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is slated for launch on 10 November.

This isn’t Netflix’s first time in snagging up the rights to make an animated or live-action series of a popular and best-selling video game series. As many of you know, the streaming service bought the rights to make the fantasy series, The Witcher; while many of us are familiar with CD Projekt Red’s (CDPR) video game adaptation of the world, the Netflix series was actually based off the books or its Polish creator, Andrzej Sapkowski.

Speaking of CDPR, Netflix is also collaborating with the Polish studio to make Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime series that is based off the latter’s upcoming sci-fi action RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, which as you’ve no doubt read, has been delayed yet again till 10 December.
