One of the main draws of the PS5 is its touted insanely fast load times. But it looks like some PS4 first party games are already getting the same. One example is The Last of Us Remastered. There’s even a video showing the massive improvement.
The video you see embedded below is by the YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits. As the video shows, the loading times from starting a new game gets cut down from over 90 seconds to just under 14. Loading a save, on the other hand, has had load times reduced from over two minutes to also under 14 seconds. It’s much the same story for DLCs, with load times cut from 66 seconds to about 17.
There are also claims that the improvement is seen on other PlayStation first party games like Until Dawn and Ghost Of Tsushima. Though these claims are on the questionable side. Until Dawn hasn’t gotten an update since back in 2015. And anecdotally speaking, as I’ve been playing Ghost of Tsushima a lot lately with the New Game Plus and Legends modes added, there hasn’t been a noticeable improvement in load times.
Right, so it appears these #PS5 B/C updates that #PS4 games are getting are even having a huge effect on load times on the current gen system.

It’s unclear what the explanation is behind the improved load times with The Last of Us Remastered. It’s possible that it’s due to a new compression system. But whether or not that’s the case will remain unknown unless Naughty Dog says something about it. The same goes for the other games and their dev teams.
