KUCHING (Nov 26): Sarawak recorded four new Covid-19 cases in Kuching District today, all of which were imported cases, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 1,062.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily Covid-19 update statement said two of the cases were imported from Sabah while the other two were locals returning from Pontianak, Indonesia.

According to SDMC, the two locals returning from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah arrived at the Kuching International Airport on Nov 25. Upon arrival they were directed to undergo screening and the mandatory 14 days of quarantine.

Their lab test results tested positive for Covid-19 on the same day, despite both being asymptomatic.

They have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment, and the Health Department are currently tracking down close contacts of the two from the same flight.

The two cases were classified as Import B cases for having been infected in a high risk area within the country.

Meanwhile, two locals returning from Pontianak, Indonesia who arrived at the Tebedu Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) on Nov 24 were directed to undergo screening and the mandatory 14 days quarantine.

Their tests returned positive for Covid-19 on the same day, and both were then admitted to SGH. SDMC said they were both asymptomatic.

The cases have been classified as Import A cases for having been infected overseas.

SDMC said the Health Department is currently tracking down all close contacts to the two cases.

Meanwhile, the committee also recorded seven new recovery and discharged cases today; six from SGH and one from Miri Hospital.

A total of 28 cases are still being treated, with 25 in SGH, two in Sibu Hospital and one Miri Hospital.

SDMC also recorded 43 new persons-under-investigation (PUI) cases, and 351 new persons-under-surveillance (PUS) cases.

A total of 3,670 PUS cases are currently quarantined at 34 hotels and other isolation accommodations around the state.
