Another active case detection exercise planned for Zone 7 – Tiong Hua, says Dr Annuar

SIBU (Feb 27): Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) will roll out another mass targeted Active Case Detection (ACD) in Zone 7 – Tiong Hua as early as next week to curb the spread of the Covid-19, said its coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee.

He pointed out that the exercise is pivotal to ensure all those infected with Covid-19 can be uncovered.

“SDDMC has decided to carry out swab test for residents in Tiong Hua zone as early as next week as we do not want anybody to be left out. We are going all out to bring down the number of daily cases there by detecting those who are positive for the virus as quickly as we can.

“Residents can go to the nearby private hospital, after a procedure agreed upon with Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) as we will not be setting up a designated place for the exercise,” Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, told reporters after receiving his vaccine dose at Lanang Health Clinic today.

He also noted there were some people who have questioned as to why lockdown was not imposed in this zone.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister for Education, Science and Technological Research, explained that there were a few reasons for not imposing a lockdown, as based on the observation, a majority of those staying in that zone are simply renting.

“So, in a house, you can have over 10 people renting the place and the congested living condition also facilitated the virus transmission. But it (the transmission) does not involve the entire area of Tiong Hua. That is why we do not want to impose any lockdown.

Furthermore, there are so many entry/exit points which make it difficult to monitor and control if a lockdown is imposed, he added.

“I have spoken to Sibu Divisional Health Officer Dr Teh Jo Hun that since most of the people who stay there (Tiong Hua area) are renting the place, the transmission might possibly be from the workplace and did not originate from the area.

“That is what we are looking into now to ensure that there would not be a surge of cases from that zone over the next couple of days,” the Nangka assemblyman, said.

Among those vaccinated at the health clinic were Senator Robert Lau, SDDMC chairman and Sibu Resident Charles Siaw, Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit and his deputy Superintendent Collin Babat, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting, Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai and Sibu District Officer Suhaili Mohamed.
