    Covid-19: 1 more death in Sibu, 255 new cases in Sarawak today

    KUCHING (Feb 27): Sarawak recorded another death from Covid-19 in Sibu today along with 255 new postive cases, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said.

    SDMC said the 81th death involved a 77-year-old man. He was admitted to Sibu Hospital after he tested positive for the virus on Feb 13, detected through close contact tracing of positive cases.

    “The health condition of the case deteriorated and he was pronounced dead on Feb 27. The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, and stroke. The death was linked to an active cluster, which is the Geronggang Cluster in Sibu,” the committee said in its daily update statement.

    Meanwhile, the new positive cases were detected in Sibu District (106), Selangau 27), Miri (26), Kapit (22), Bintulu (13), Kuching (12), Betong (11), Kanowit (9), Sri Aman (8), Dalat (5), Bukit Mabong (5), Bau (4), Pusa (2), Saratok (2), Meradong (1), Sarikei (1) and Subis (1).

    This brings the cumulative number of cases in the state to 9,374 cases.

    Out of the 106 cases in Sibu District, 77 cases are individuals screened through active case detection (ACD) of contacts to Covid-19 positive cases, 16 are cases from screening of symptomatic individuals at healthcare centre in the district, 12 are cases screened at healthcare centre in the district, and one involves a health worker.

    In Selangau District, all 27 new cases were detected from the Buloh Cluster.

    In Miri District, 15 cases are individuals screened through ACD of contacts to Covid-19 positive cases, eight are cases screened at healthcare centre in the district, and three are from screening of symptomatic individuals.

    In Kapit District, 20 cases are linked to Gelong Cluster, one linked to Jan Yong Cluster, and one is a case screened at healthcare centre there.

    In Bintulu District, 10 cases are screened through ACD of contacts to positive cases, two are from screening of symptomatic individuals and one screened at healthcare centre.

    In Kuching, eight cases are screened through ACD of contacts to positive cases, three are linked to Emperoh Jambu Cluster, and one screened at healthcare centre.

    In Betong District, 10 cases are linked to Jalan Muhibbah Cluster and one was screened through ACD of contacts to positive cases.

    The nine cases in Kanowit District are screened through ACD of contacts to positive cases.

    The seven cases in Sri Aman District were linked to Jalan Muhibbah Cluster and one screened at a healthcare centre there.

    In Dalat District, three cases are from screening of symptomatic individuals and two were detected from ACD.

    All five cases in Bukit Mabong District are linked to Gelong Cluster.

    The four cases in Bau were detected from ACD of contacts to positive cases.

    The two cases in Saratok District were screened from ACD of contacts of positive cases, while the two cases in Pusa District are from screening of symptomatic individuals.

    The one case in Meradong District were linked to Sungai Bakong Cluster, and a case in Subis District was from screening of symptomatic individuals.

    Meanwhile, Sarawak today recorded 242 cases of recoveries and discharges, of which Miri Hospital recorded 98 cases, Sibu Hospital (77), PKRC under Kapit Hospital (46), Sarawak General Hospital (11), Bintulu Hospital (8) and Sarikei Hospital (2).

    This brings the total number of recoveries and discharges to 6,862 or 73.2 percent from the total cases in Sarawak.

    “A total of 2,397 cases are still being treated at hospitals, out of which 1,161 are in Sibu Hospital, 384 cases in SGH, 282 in Bintulu Hospital, 212 cases in Sarikei Hospital, 188 cases in Kapit Hospital (PKRC Kapit), 137 cases in Miri Hospital, and 33 cases in Sri Aman Hospital (PKRC Sri Aman)

    There were 256 new persons-under-investigation (PUI) recorded today, with three still awaiting laboratory results.
