BINTULU (March 2): A total of 26 logs of various sizes and species estimated to be worth about RM10,400 were seized by the Region 5 Marine Police here yesterday.
Its commanding officer ASP Ezuandi Bahadin said a lorry estimated to be worth RM135,000 was also confiscated in the 5.30pm operation at the roadside along Mile 15 Miri-Bintulu Road.
He said the police also detained a 27-year-old lorry driver for further investigation.
“During the inspection, it was found that the 26 timber of various sizes and species have been obtained and transported illegally without permission from Sarawak Forest Department,” he said.
The case will be investigated under the Sarawak Forest Ordinance 2015.
The case has been handed over to Sarawak Forest Department, Bintulu Office for further action.
