Gawai’s over, continue to stay at home – Jamit tells Kapit residents

    Jefferson Jamit

KAPIT (June 5): Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat has appealed to the public to continue to stay at home during this Movement Control Order (MCO) period as the Gawai celebration is now over.

“Unless it’s real urgent, don’t come to town. Urgent means to buy essential food like baby milk powder, fuel, food stuffs, medical appointment, or Covid-19 vaccination appointment.

“When people stay at home, don’t move around, we hope to create a buffer zone to cull Covid-19 from spreading. What is important, we must continue to be vigilant strictly adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOP) at public places.

“Just follow SOP by observing one meter physical distancing and mask-wearing practices, even if you have already been fully vaccinated”, said Jamit.

He said even those who have already been fully vaccinated were also required to follow the SOP until Kapit Division achieves good vaccination coverage and low community infections.

He said he is confident that good vaccination coverage in Kapit Division can be achieve soon as more vaccines will be available this June.

“We aim to get the Kapit division back to the green zone status, and out of the pandemic, as soon as possible,” he added.

Jamit said based on previous experiences after the Gawai celebration, people would return to town.

Therefore, he stressed, the community must be extra careful continue to adhere to the SOP as a precautionary measure.

He said all parties must continue to observe the SOP in order for the Kapit Division to win the battle against the pandemic.

“I would like to encourage Kapit residents and the business community to adopt new way of doing business – to practice the take-away (tapau) concept.

“Even when tapau food, try to minimise time spent at the shop while waiting the food to be ready. When tapau food or at other premises in town, check your body temperature and use hand sanitizer for precautionary measures”, said Jamit.

Other preventive measures which must be adhered to include wearing of face masks, practice good hygiene, and keeping distance from others, which were found to be effective and could help prevent the spread of Covid-19, he said.
