Issuance of 235 compounds proof of PDRM’s seriousness in ensuring full SOP-compliance

    Datuk Aidi Ismail

KUCHING (June 6): The issuance of 235 compounds to individuals and premises owners in Sarawak since June 1 indicates the seriousness of Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in ensuring full public compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set under the current Movement Control Order (MCO).

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said the force had to be more stringent in enforcing all directives meant to flatten the Covid-19 curve in Sarawak.

“We have to be much stricter during this MCO to ensure that the people would not violate the SOP,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Overall, he said many people were more aware of the SOP and this had made the enforcement relatively smoother.

Aidi also advised the people to remain at home and only go out when necessary.

“Let us break the Covid-19 infection chain and prevent the virus from spreading.”

Meanwhile, Aidi said police personnel would be stationed at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) and the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) in Miri, which would serve as the Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPV) in the respective districts, starting this June 7.

“The presence of police at these two PPVs is meant to control the traffic flow and also to handle the roadblocks there,” he added.

Aidi also assured those having their vaccine appointments at the PPVs that they would be allowed to pass the roadblocks.

“I also advise the vaccine recipients to be punctual for their appointments to avoid unnecessary traffic congestion affecting the two PPVs,” he added.
