Kita Jaga Miri praised for contributions to community during pandemic times

MIRI (June 26): The Kita Jaga Miri (KJM) platform is lauded for its significant contributions to the local community amidst the current Covid-19 situation, says Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting.

Officially formed early this year, the KJM comprises four entities – the Rotary Club of Miri Oil Town, Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Sheda) Miri, Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations Youth (FCAY), and Advocates Association of Sarawak (AAS) Miri.

Two months ago, the platform established what was regarded as its major projects – the extension of Miri Hospital’s molecular laboratory, which was meant to counter the delay in Covid-19 swab-test assessments as more positive cases had been recorded in the division.

Now, KJM has launched its second project, meant to benefit the local community as well.

“The second project, also a very significant one, is the drive-thru swab-test station sited at the entrance of Miri Indoor Stadium,” Ting told reporters when met during a site inspection on Thursday.

Set up at a cost of RM45,000, the station would focus on a set of targeted groups comprising the senior citizens, pregnant women, children, and individuals with disabilities (PwDs).

“This idea has been very well-received due to its convenience for those in the high-risk groups.

“It also helps reduce the number of people at one place, at any one time,” Ting added.

The drive-thru swab-test station would be officially handed over to Miri Health Office today, and should be operational next week.

Ting, who is Piasau assemblyman, also expressed thanks to the division disaster management committee and Miri Health Office for their efforts in curbing the spread of Covid-19 here.

“Most importantly, we must thank the frontliners, particularly the healthcare personnel, who have been working tirelessly since March last year,” added Ting.
