SIBU (June 30): A 33-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to the theft of a motor vehicle over 10 years ago.
Joseph Ngadan was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code and read together with Section 511 of the Penal Code.
Section 379A of the Penal Code carries a minimum one-year imprisonment but not more than seven years and also liable to a fine upon conviction.
According to the charge, he attempted to steal a motorcycle belonging to Wong worth RM5,000 on Dec 24, 2010 at about 6.15pm but was on the run before he could be charged in court.
His past caught up with him when he was arrested for gang robbery on May 10 this year at a farmhouse in Mile 14, Jalan Oya at around 10pm.
Only then was he found out to be involved in the motor vehicle theft that happened in 2010.
He was also charged at the Sessions Court for gang-robbery under Section 395 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 20 years imprisonment and also liable for whipping upon conviction.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment term and 10 strokes of the cane.
