Masing calls on decision makers to push for industrial workers to be vaccinated against Covid-19

Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing

KUCHING (June 28): Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing has called on the decision makers in the country to push for industrial workers to be vaccinated against Covid-19 using all available vaccines.

Masing believed by doing so, the country could create a big enough herd immunity for the industries to function.

He said while ‘total lockdown’ will not break the chain of Covid-19 infection, the vaccines will.

“Total lockdown, as now practised throughout the nation is a very selective method of closing down certain factories.

“Such approach cannot break the chain of spread of Covid-19 because when the Movement Control Order (MCO) is lifted, Covid-19 will continue its rampage,” Masing said in a statement today.

He cautioned that total lockdown could create ‘economic mutants’ among the industries, social frustration within the community and make netizens with the government.

Masing said Sarawak’s aggressive roll-out of Covid-19 vaccines using the ‘jab first, register later’ approach for those living in rural areas to contain Covid-19 is the correct approach.

“Thus, Sarawak has the most number of people who has been vaccinated in Malaysia.

“In fact, Sarawak need not follow the total lockdown as practised in Malaya, but by being part of Malaysia, we have to follow the national instruction,” he said.
