MIRI (July 2): The Brunei government donated 10 ventilators and 200 PCR Covid-19 test kits to Malaysia yesterday.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said this was in the spirit of solidarity and friendship between both countries.
The contribution from Brunei worth RM1.7 million was handed over to the Malaysian government at Labu Temburong post in Brunei.
In a Tweet, Hishammuddin said the contribution came barely a day after Brunei Foreign Minister II Dato Seri Setia Erywan Mohd Yusof said the sultanate was ready to contribute medical equipment to Malaysia.
He thanked the Brunei government for the contribution and said the equipment would be placed in hospitals in Sarawak, Labuan, and Sabah.
Sarawak deputy director of Health Dr Azlie Ayub received the contributions from Awang Zakaria Awang — permanent secretary of the Brunei Ministry of Health of Brunei.
Dr Azlie and Lawas District Hospital director Dr Ahmad Syahir Sarji later sent four ventilators and Covid-19 test kits to the health representatives from Sabah and Labuan at the Merapok-Sindumin border.
