MIRI (July 2): A family of five was left homeless after a fire razed their wooden house at Long Adang, a Penan village in Limbang on Monday (July 1).
Limbang Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Awangku Mohd Hazmin Awang Zainal said the Limbang fire station received a report on the incident at 3.15pm.
However, the station could not deploy firefighters due to the muddy conditions and landslides after rainy weather along the road leading to the village.
There are also two tributaries which no vehicle can pass when it rains.
“Several villagers have reported that the non-permanent double-storey stilt house measuring 50 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 18 feet high was 100 per cent destroyed.
“During the incident, the five family members were lucky to have escaped without any injuries,” he said when contacted.
Awangku Mohd Hazmin said the department received scant information as there is no mobile phone coverage in the area.
“It is learnt that the villagers managed to control the fire using tap water until it was completely extinguished at about 6pm.
“We will send our team and an investigating officer there to investigate on the fire incident if the situation permits tomorrow (today),” he added.
