Octogenarian who went missing on Canada Hill found safe and well

SAR team members check on the octogenarian before bringing him home.

MIRI (July 9): A search and rescue (SAR) team found an 87-year-old man, who was reported missing after he went to the Grand Old Lady on Canada Hill, safe and well this morning.

The man, who was reported missing around 7.45pm last night, was later brought to his house, located some 10 minutes from where he was found.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the SAR team found the octogenarian at Route 1 of the hill around 9am.

“He was safe and still can walk out of the location where he was found by the SAR team,” Law said.

According to the complainant, the man left his home around 3pm yesterday for reasons unknown.

Apart from firefighters, the man’s family members as well as several volunteers, including runners and hikers, took part in the SAR operation, which ended at 10.05am.
