MIRI (Nov 30): Local folks in Niah area hoping that Niah Sub-District will be upgraded into full district to further boost development in the area by 2030.
Women, Family and Childhood Development Assistant Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus voiced out this inspiration of Niah folks during the launching of Niah Waterfront Phase Two at Sepupok, Niah yesterday.
The phase two project was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Rosey, who is the Bekenu incumbent, also requested the state government to speed up the improvement of the poor internet connectivity in Bekenu constituency.
“We understand that efforts are being made to improve the internet access in rural areas as desired by the chief minister to develop the state inclusively.
“The only request is to speed up the upgrading and improvement of internet connectivity.”
With Niah National Park as well as the Niah river which is known as a good venue for prawn fishing, she said the local folks were very eager to make Niah a truly tourist destination.
To support this effort, she said an effort has been made to develop Niah river by building gabion wall to prevent soil erosion through the Niah Waterfront second phase project.
On behalf of the Niah people, she thanked the chief minister for approving various development projects for the area such as Batu Niah Waterfront, Batu Niah Market, upgrading of Niah National Park’s infrastructure such as building the Niah River Bridge at Pengkalan Lobang, Buggy Trail to Niah Cave and the Niah Waterfront phase two project.
“There is much more that can be done which only can be realised if we have a stable government, diverse financial and solid resources as what had been done by the chief minister in his effort to strengthen the state’s finances.
“Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) must win (during the upcoming 12th state election). With GPS spirit, let us ensure victory in Bekenu as a gift to the chief minister during the polling day on this December 18.
