KUCHING (Dec 2): The newly officiated Centexs campus in Lundu is a manifestation of the visions of former chief minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

However, his dream to see this campus ready was not fulfilled after he passed away in 2017, said his wife Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, who is also Tanjong Datu incumbent.

“His dream to see this campus ready was not fulfilled, nor was his dream to drive his own car from Sematan to Telok Melano. There were many more dreams that he did not get to fulfil, but I am also grateful his dreams did not remain as dreams because they have became a reality.

“This is because there is a continuity of leadership that heads towards the same direction in development,” she said in her speech at the official opening ceremony of Centexs Lundu by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday.

She hoped that the centre would be able to provide the courses needed by the domestic market, apart from the strategic courses needed for Sarawak’s development.

“This centre will be another landmark in the district. It is a historic moment because Lundu and Tanjong Datu have seen several mega projects launched before and now some are fully completed while some are still in various stages of implementation,” she said.

On another note, Jamilah said that after the 33-kilometre Telok Melano-Sematan package of the Pan Borneo Highway project was completed there has clearly been an increase in economic activities in the Sematan and Telok Melano areas.

“Sematan and Telok Melano receive thousands of visitors every month, causing congestion in Sematan town and Kampung Telok Melano.

“Currently, the Lundu-Bau route is being actively implemented and is expected to be fully completed in 2023 and with that, economic activities in this area will be more vibrant,” she said.

Jamilah said that in addition to the two roads mentioned, another big project that is a gift from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to the people of Lundu, especially Tanjong Datu, is the construction of the Batang Rambungan Bridge worth RM98 million, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023.

“To complete the road network to Lundu via Rambungan and Sampadi, a total of RM100.7 million has been approved to replace eight bailey bridges with eight two-lane concrete bridges. All these bridges are expected to be completed in the second half of 2023.

“When these bridges are completed, we will be able to enjoy an uninterrupted drive from Kuching to Lundu and back,” she said.

Jamilah said that all these projects, big and small, that have been implemented will bridge the development gap between urban and rural areas, and that Lundu will definitely be part of this development equity.

“All this have become a reality, not only because there is people-centric leadership but also because there is a stable government and the people are united and always working together to support the government.

“In facing the state election, I am very confident that GPS under the leadership of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari will be given mandate by the people once again based on track record shown by the GPS government,” she said.
