See retains Batu Lintang with razor-thin majority of 93 votes

KUCHING (Dec 18): Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) See Chee How retained the Batu Lintang seat by the skin of his teeth with a razor-thin majority of merely 93 votes.

This was a far cry from the comfortable majority of 4,385 votes he managed in 2016.

Today, See only garnered 4,420 votes, while Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) Sih Hua Tong received 4,327 votes, Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Cherishe Ng Phuay Hui had 1,823 votes, Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s (PBK) Voon Lee Shan managed 1,570 votes, and Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party’s (Aspirasi) Leong Shaow Tung polled just 187 votes.

When met at the tallying centre at the MBKS Sports Village, Jalan Bintawa here, See thanked party members and supporters who worked hard throughout the campaign.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in this campaign and during the voting period.

“It was definitely a tough fight between the contenders. Their manifestos were also something very challenging and attracted many voters,” he said.

On his significantly reduced majority, See said several factors could have affected the results.

“First, during this election for N11 Batu Lintang, it was a five-cornered fight, which as far as I am concerned it never happened in previous elections.

“Secondly, Pakatan Harapan (PH) has always been a strong opponent, and a strong alliance by themselves, and thirdly the weather with torrential rain hindered the voters from coming out to vote,” he said.
