SIBU (July 28): Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya hopes that the implementation of Community Integrity Building (CIB) will enable Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) to give the best services to the people.
Speaking during the visit to SMC at its office in Wisma Sanyan yesterday, he said Sibu is one of the four places for the CIB pilot project.
“We have four places namely in Lawas, SMC, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Matu Daro.
“I believe that SMC will be happy to accept the system and can promote it. Through CIB, we will know what the function of the community is and how we can ensure an effective delivery system,” he said.
He said through the system, the council could resolve and address complaints effectively and on time.
He pointed out that the demand of the people has become increasingly high these days and the people would complain if they were not satisfied.
“Sometimes, even if there is a channel for complaints, they love to complain to Mark Zuckerberg. So, we all need to address this.
“We cannot address all the issues, but we need to make sure that the existing system is improved,” he said, referring to Facebook and its founder.
On another matter, he said that Sibu has become much safer than before.
Meanwhile, SMC chairman Clarence Ting said he had stressed on the importance of integrity among the staff and councillors when he was appointed as chairman of the council in 2019.
“I told the councillors, if you do any projects without letting me know, I will bring you to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) myself. That is the message I sent to all the councillors and staff,” he said.
