KUCHING (July 27): A petrol station here found to be selling the subsidised RON95 fuel was raided by the state Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) enforcement team yesterday.

The raid was led by its enforcement chief Peter J. Berinus Agang, after a video footage of foreign-registered vehicles being filled up with RON95 petrol went viral on social media.

Peter, in a statement, said the foreign-registered vehicles were getting the subsidised RON95 when in fact they should be getting RON97.

“Investigation papers have been opened, and the case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.

“Individuals caught violating the Supply Control Act 1961 (Act 122) could face up to RM1 million in fines, while entities and companies may be fined up to RM2 million.

“Repeat offenders can be fined not more than RM3 million or three years’ jail or both for individual offenders, or a fine not more than RM5 million for entities and companies,” said Peter in the statement.

He also said 176 KPDNHEP enforcement officers throughout Sarawak had been mobilised to carry out inspections and enhance enforcement activities.

“KPDNHEP Sarawak calls on people who have information about any person or petrol station operator violating the legislation to channel their complaint complete with the names and location of the petrol stations as well as photo evidence to us.”
