KUCHING (July 27): A woman claimed trial at a magistrates’ court here yesterday to cheating a woman, 68, by dishonestly inducing her to part with here RM59,750.
Tanggamuthu Sinthamani, 63, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum 10 years’ jail, caning and a fine.
Zubaidah released the accused on RM1,000 cash bail with one local surety, and fixed Dec 7 for case management.
The accused allegedly committed the offence at a house in Everbright Estate, Jalan Batu Kawa here on April 1, 2020.
According to the fact of case, the woman (complainant) had gone to the accused house about a shaman who could help to treat her husband whom she believed was having an affair with another woman.
The complainant allegedly handed over RM59,750 to the accused in stages to pay the shaman who carries the title ‘Datuk’.
The accused allegedly induced the complainant to believe that she can help the woman treat her husband.
Insp Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by a counsel.
