KUCHING (Aug 23): The Magistrates’ Court here yesterday fined a man a total of RM9,900 after he pleaded guilty to three drug charges.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the fines against Mohammad Saifullah Sahmad, 31, who was charged with two counts of possessing drugs and one count of abusing drugs.
On the first and second charges, the accused pleaded guilty to possessing 1.57g and 1.68g of methamphetamine, respectively, during a police raid on a house in Kampung Semariang Wawasan Jaya, Jalan Sultan Tengah here at around 11.30pm on May 30, 2022.
The charges were framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
Mohammad Saifullah was fined RM3,600 in default eight months’ jail for the first charge, and RM3,500 in default eight months’ jail for the second charge.
On the third charge, framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952, the accused was fined RM2,800 in default five months’ jail and ordered to undergo two years of police supervision, for abusing methamphetamine and amphetamine.
He was tested drug-positive at the Kuching Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office at around 12.33am on May 31, 2022.
Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case, while the accused was unrepresented.
