KUCHING (Aug 22): Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang attended the wedding reception of Dr Nurul Hazieqah Dr Hazland and Dr Luqman Hakim Dato Rozlan at Pullman Hotel here last weekend.

Dr Nurul Hazieqah, 28, is the eldest among the four daughters of Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak Dr Hazland Abang Hipni and Dayang Halimah Abang Paul.

The reception on Sunday night also hosted deputy premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Upon arrival at the grand ballroom, the newlyweds were first treated to a ‘silat’ performance before making their way to the dais onstage.

Abang Johari and Juma’ani were also invited to perform the ‘merenjis air mawar’ (sprinkling of the rosewater) ritual on Dr Nurul Hazieqah and Dr Luqman Hakim, signifying the wishes for the couple to have a blessed and blissful married life.

The newlyweds later took part in another Sarawak Malay traditional wedding ritual – the eating of the ‘nasi temuan’.

In his remarks, Dr Hazland conveyed his blessings and good wishes to the couple.

“Both are still undergoing housemanship at hospitals.

“Upon completing housemanship, you can decide whichever path you would like to take and of course, it is your choice on whether you want to specialise in a particular medical field or go into the private sector,” he gave his advice to the newlyweds.

“Also tonight, I will not be talking about climate change, environmental sustainability, carbon trading or renewable energy, particularly hydrogen. I would just like to thank all of you for coming here tonight,” quipped Dr Hazland.

Born on June 17, 1994, Dr Nurul Hazieqah received early education at Tunku Putra School before entering Form 5 at SMK St Teresa here. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at MAHSA University.

Dr Luqman Hakim, who was born on May 14, 1995 in Johor Bahru, is the third of four children of Dato Rozlan Mohamed and Datin Hafizah Mohamed.

He received early education at SK Seafield 3 in Subang Jaya; SK Dato Onn Jaafar, also in Subang Jaya; and SK Bukit Jelutong in Shah Alam. He underwent secondary education at SMK Bukit Jelutong in Shah Alam and SM Sains Tapah in Perak.

Dr Luqman Hakim also pursued his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at MAHSA University, where he met his wife.

Both Dr Nurul Hazieqah and Dr Luqman Hakim are avid fans of Arsenal FC and also the British rock band, Coldplay.
