PANDAN INDAH (Feb 4): PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said the party must steer clear of acts that may seem nepotistic, after criticism of Nurul Izzah Anwar and Iqbal Johari’s appointments to the offices of their respective fathers.

He said it will also be imperative that both the daughter of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the son of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul exemplify themselves in their positions, even if they would not be paid by taxpayers.

“For the future, I think these things should be avoided, but in this situation, the appointments were made without involving the people’s money

“What we hope now is they prove they will bring added value; I am sure they have their respective roles. I understand how many people feel (and) it is appropriate to follow the people’s point of view and we respect that,” he told reporters at the Pandan constituency Chinese New Year Dinner here tonight.

PKR was already criticised since last week after it was revealed that Nurul Izzah, the former Permatang Pauh MP, was appointed as senior adviser on finance and economics to her father, Anwar.

Earlier this week, it then appeared that Iqbal would be a special duties officer to his father, Johari.

Both Anwar and Johari defended their children’s appointment by saying they did not involve taxpayers monies, and that their offspring were qualified for the roles. – Malay Mail
