Darul Hana housing units safe for occupation, have good structural integrity, assures HDC

Mohamad Asman Ahmad said as the project’s implementing agency, HDC took such allegation seriously and gave his assurance that appropriate actions would be taken.

KUCHING (Feb 4): The structural integrity of the units under Darul Hana development is good and these houses are safe for occupation, assures Housing Development Corporation (HDC) chief executive officer Mohamad Asman Ahmad.

His statement came following the viral posts claiming that the Darul Hana units were damaged.

In this regard, Mohamad Asman said as the project’s implementing agency, HDC took such allegation seriously and gave his assurance that appropriate actions would be taken.

Adding on, he said based on the consultant’s technical reports, the cracks in the houses could have been caused by soil movements resulting from construction works being carried out on the area.

“Other factors could be the changes in the groundwater levels and the vibrations from heavy vehicles,” he said in a statement yesterday.

According to Mohamad Asman, site inspections are being undertaken before commencing any repair works to ensure that such damage would not reoccur.

He said to ensure the safety of the residents, continuous monitoring would be conducted and HDC would liaise with the relevant departments and agencies towards resolving the issue.

Meanwhile, HDC had made a call for public cooperation to not to make any speculation and to stop circulating the photos of the affected houses on social media.

“This is to prevent panic and worry among the residents. This is also to provide the space for HDC to conduct further investigations, as best as possible.”

A brainchild of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud back when he was still the chief minister in 2011, the Darul Hana development covers 721 acres of resettlement areas for residents from 12 villages – specifically 16,655 residents from 4,278 families, and 2,525 houses.

On Aug 27 last year, the first group of residents involving 337 households from Kampung Semarang, Kampung Panglima Seman Lama and Kampung Lot Tambahan, had moved into their new Darul Hana units.
