KUCHING (March 27): Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri hailed the joint distribution of ‘bubur lambuk’ and food baskets by Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA) and Liansin Trading Sdn Bhd as ‘a commendable act during the month of Ramadan’.
Taking place at the compound of Masjid Darul Hana in Petra Jaya here yesterday, the programme involved the distribution of ‘bubur lambuk’ – a sought-after savoury porridge usually available in the fasting month – to the public, as well as packets of rice and sugar, to residents from villages around the mosque.
Nancy, who is Santubong MP, was accompanied by Deputy Minister II Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
“This activity jointly organised by the federation and Liansin is a commendable one during this Ramadan month.
“I hope more groups would emulate such practice meant to support the local community during this holy fasting month,” said Nancy, also pointing out that ministry had always maintained a close relationship with the media fraternity in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman thanked the FSJA and Liansin for organising this activity for the first time, which actually benefitted communities of various ethnic groups.
“This activity also reflects the uniqueness of Sarawak, whereby folks from various racial groups can come together and celebrate Ramadan and also other festivals like Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak, Christmas and Chinese New Year,” said Dr Abdul Rahman, who is Pantai Damai assemblyman.
Representing the FSJA for the programme was Sarawak Press Photographers Association acting chairman and The Borneo Post’s photographer, Chimon Upon, who said eight of such activities were being held across Kuching, Samarahan, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu and Lawas.
Chimon also expressed his gratitude to Liansin Trading for contributing the rice and also sugar for the distribution event, as well as for channelling funds for the preparations the porridge and also the event as a whole.
“We also hope that such charitable activity would become an annual event for the federation in the future,” he said.
Among those in attendance were newly-appointed Kuching Resident Fathi Hambali, Liansin Trading director Junaidi Ali, and Kuching Division Journalist Association president and The Borneo Post business editor Ronnie Teo.
