BINTANGOR (April 16): Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing urges the local authorities to improve the maintenance of drainage system at the residential areas here.
Speaking to reporters during a site visit to Taman Bintang Bintangor here on Friday (April14), Ding remarked that he had been receiving complaints from the residents in that area who claimed that the drains were frequently overflowing during heavy rain.
“That is why we have brought along personnel from the Meradong Julau District Council (MDMJ) and Department of Drainage and Drainage (DID) Sarikei to this location to seek a solution to this problem,” he said.
Adding on, he said a good drainage system and maintenance are important to ensure that the people living in the affected area would not be affected by flood.
At the same time, Ding also advised the residents to always keep their residential areas clean and not to throw rubbish into the drains.
“Don’t throw rubbish in the ditch because this will cause drain blockage. The cleanliness of the surrounding area is a shared responsibility,” he stressed.
Also accompanying Ding during the visit were DID Sarikei Division assistant civil engineer Mary and MDMJ civil engineer Robin Roy.
