Covid-19: Do not be complacent, continue to follow SOP

File photo shows the SOP-compliant table arrangement at a hawker centre in Sungai Antu Market, Sibu.

KUALA LUMPUR,:The number of Covid-19 positive cases has dropped significantly, with only a one digit number of cases since June 29 until yesterday.

On the 22nd day of the Recovery Movement Control Order (MCO) last July 1, the country made history with no case of local infection, either among Malaysians or non-citizens.

July 1 was also the first time Malaysia recorded only one positive Covid-19 case, and it was an imported cases, prompting Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to express his gratitude to the people for  their  cooperation in complying with the standard operating procedure ( SOP).

The current Covid-19 trend, however, did not make Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, complacent, as he continues to stress that the key in the fight against Covid-19 is to comply with the prescribed SOP, no matter who or where they are.

Hence, the Health Ministry is concerned with the compliance of the SOP by those involved  during the Chini state by-election (EC) today, which also records history being the first by-election in the country to held under the new normal in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A total of 140 experienced health personnel are stationed at polling centres in the state constituency to ensure compliance with the SOP, as well as close monitoring on voters having Covid-19 symptoms.

That is not all, as Dr Noor Hisham, at a press conference yesterday, also said that all parliamentary members, parliament staff and media members with symptoms are required to go for Covid-19 swab test to attend the Dewan Rakyat sitting which begins on July 13.

With the re-opening of schools, all quarters are also required to comply with the prescribed SOP to break the chain of the Covid-19 infection.

Remember the prime minister’s advice, do not feel too comfortable that one becomes complacent in the effort to curb the spread of the pandemic, be cautious, take preventive measures and comply with the prescribed SOP at all times. – Bernama
