CM: Chung Hua Middle School No 4 to be relocated to larger plot of land

KUCHING (Aug 8): Negotiations are ongoing to relocate Chung Hua Middle School No 4 at Jalan Haji Taha to a larger plot of land within Kuching City.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the school’s current land is too small and is not able to accommodate any more expansion works to the school.

“The school’s management board has requested for the school to be relocated to a new place. Also the location of the school near the (Jalan Kulas – Haji Taha) interchange is not suitable for a school.

“Now it (relocation) is still in negotiation. I think by next year (decision) should be ok,” he said.

Abang Johari said the school’s management board will decide which location they want the school to be relocated to.

He assured that the state government will assist the school once the relocation details have been decided.

“Once a plot has been identified then we talk about other things. Because if they are relocating, of course they have to build new buildings which will involve costs.

“That’s why we have to discuss further with the school’s management board, because at the moment (in its current location) they cannot expand.

“They only have a basketball court,” he said.

Earlier, Abang Johari was inspecting the construction site of the new Sungai Bintangor Bridge at Jalan Ajibah Abol here.

The construction of the 57-meter cable stay bridge includes the widening of existing Jalan Ajibah Abol from the Kuching City Mosque all the way to Jalan Haji Mataim junction, involving a cost of about RM50 million, he said.

Currently the project is about 4.98 per cent completed, and is expected to be completed in 36 months from when it started in December 2019.

Speaking on the development of Kuching City as a whole, Abang Johari said the state government is using the organic approach to develop the city.

He said this meant that while maintaining and retaining the old structures within the city, the government is also developing more infrastructures outward from the city.

He said a master plan has been drawn for the development of Kuching all the way beyond the year 2030 with the aim to rejuvenate and renew the city.

“It takes time. I announced it during (Kuching) City Day (last week) that certain areas in the city will be rejuvenated.”

He also pointed out that the master plan also involved developing areas from Batu Kawa all the way to Bau, as well as from areas around Kuching International Airport all the way to Samarahan.
