Dudong seat is not an ‘asset’ to any party, PDP senior VP reminds SUPP Dudong leaders

SIBU (Aug 9): Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) senior vice-president Cr Teo Boon Siew has reminded Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Dudong branch leaders that the Dudong state seat is not an ‘asset’ to any party.

Teo, who is PDP Dudong branch chairman, was responding to the statements issued by the SUPP Dudong branch leaders, who said that the Dudong state seat is their traditional seat,

“I want to remind them that the seat is the government’s right to determine which party is eligible to contest there,” he said during a press conference held at the PDP Dudong branch service centre here today.

Teo, in a political gathering with the people organised by the PDP Dudong branch in Durin last week had voiced his proposal for Tiong to be nominated by GPS in the Dudong state seat.

Following his suggestion, Teo was criticised by the SUPP Dudong branch leaders.

Despite the criticism, Teo opined that every party is free to submit whatever suggestions it thinks is sensible.

“This is not a big deal, all parties can say who their candidate is and the one who will decide later is our Chief Minister,” he added.

Having said that, Teo said PDP was hopeful that party president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing would be nominated to represent the GPS in the Dudong state seat in the coming state election but would leave it to GPS Chairman who is also the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to decide.

“We hope Tiong can be nominated in the Dudong state seat in 12th State Election. Therefore, our party machinery is ready for that purpose.

Teo said he was only instructed by the PDP leadership to prepare the party’s machinery to face the coming state election especially in Dudong.

“Only Abang Johari has the right to announce it later. For now we are only preparing to face the 12th State Election,” he added.

Earlier, Teo officiated the PDP Dudong branch voting agent training session which was attended by 150 people from the area.

The training was divided into three sessions and was limited 50 participants per session in compliance with the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) SOP.

This training was conducted as a preparation for PDP Dudong branch to face the coming state election.

The moderator of the training was PDP central region deputy publicity chief Cr Jeffrey Nuing.
