KUCHING: A group of hikers who lost their way while descending Mount Santubong were successfully rescued by personnel from the Permai Rainforest Resort at around 12.35am this morning.
Fire and Recue Department in a statement said a call was received from the resort at 6.40pm on Aug 8 informing them of the incident.
Personnel from the Petra Jaya fire station who were deployed to the scene however failed to locate the hikers, consisting of five women and two men.
It was however fortunate that one of the hikers managed to call the resort and provide them with their location at Teluk Belian which is situated on the far north of Mount Santubong.
The resort then deployed their own boat and managed to rescue the hikers at 7.50pm.
They were then brought to Teluk Sari for a short pit-stop before heading back to the resort.
The statement also said that Bomba also tried to deploy their rescue boats to Teluk Sari but failed due to the low tide.
All of the hikers who finally reached the resort at 12.35am were then given medical aid by the Bomba’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services.
It was also revealed that only one of the hiker suffered fatigue due to the whole ordeal.
