Rundi: Parents don’t need to worry about sending children back to school as strict SOP compliance is practised

A representative of Yayasan Sarawak, Baithy Tini (left), presents a mock cheque to Mohamad Nor (third right) while witnessed by Rundi (third left) and others.

SEBAUH (Aug 9): Parents do not have to worry about sending their children back to school as each school practices strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for each student, said Utilities Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

He assured that compliance with the SOP in every school presently was very strict so as to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I have monitored and inspected the SOP compliance at schools in Sebauh area several times whereby they practised at a good level such as physical distancing while in class, body temperature check, wearing face mask, hand sanitation and washing hand frequently,” he said.

Rundi said this while speaking at the School Reopening Registration programme at the Sebauh community hall on Saturday.

He said that the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) in each school should play their respective roles by providing information to parents regarding the school reopening in the face of Covid-19 infection.

Rundi, who is also Kemena assemblyman, said it was intended to give confidence for every parent to send their child to school as usual without worry and fear.

“I believe that adhering to the high SOP will be able to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in all schools in the state and at the same time enable every student to continue their schooling sessions as usual in this new normal,” he explained.

He said that the best thing that the PTA and school management could do was to hold a meeting or dialogue session providing information on SOP compliance as well as awareness on the importance of hygiene practices in schools.

Earlier, the Tatau-Sebauh District Education Office (PPD) Satellite Office in Sebauh took the initiative to explain to parents from 13 primary schools PTA and a secondary school PTA in the district regarding the reopening of schools.

During the ceremony, a mock cheque worth RM90,000 for aid in the form of vouchers for school uniforms sponsored by Yayasan Sarawak to 450 students in Sebauh area was also held as well as donation of face masks and hand sanitisers to 13 primary schools and a secondary school in the Kemena constituency .

Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chuk, Pemanca Limin Anai and PPD Tatau-Sebauh deputy head Mohamad Nor Abdullah Tana were among those present.
