Extend ‘hybrid’ method to suburban, urban population, SPA urges state govt

    Datuk Lau Pang Heng

KUCHING (June 9): Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA) wants the state government’s ‘hybrid’ method in giving people in the rural areas vaccine injection first, then registering them later, to cover all Sarawakians.

The association urged that it should be extended to the suburban and urban population, pointing out that there are people in the suburban and urban areas who do not own any smartphone or have not downloaded the MySejahtera application in their phones.

“This is the best news for the rural population. However in the last 24 hours, since the approach was revealed by the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg we also received many phone calls from suburban and urban population.

“They were asking if the same privilege can be accorded to them too because most of them who called do not have a smartphone and they cannot download MySejahtera application,” said SPA chairman Datuk Lau Pang Heng.

Meanwhile, Lau in his statement also said that SPA urged the relevant authority to consider the possibility of enabling everyone who has not registered either with MySejehtera or at https://bit.ly/2O9mqlk to get the vaccination by just using their identification card.

“Should Sarawakians be able to use their identification card for vaccination, their names can be registered after they get the vaccination, since Sarawak has now resorted to use the ‘hybrid’ method in getting Sarawakians to get vaccinated,” he added.
