MIRI (June 9): The Resident’s Office here yesterday refuted claims posted on Facebook page that it did not pay its staff salaries for three or four months.
The office, in a statement issued through Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), stated that it has no outstanding salaries payment to its staff, thus the post was fake and an attempt to tarnish its image and credibility.
“The Facebook account that goes by the name ‘Dunia Berita’ has given inaccurate information to the public, thus an attempt to tarnish the image and credibility of a government office.
“Miri Resident’s office would like to remind the public not to spread fake news,” it said.
It said those found distributing fake news either through short messaging services (SMS) or on social media liable to a fine not more than RM50,000 or jail of not more than one year or both on conviction.
