    Search ongoing for man who fell into river while trying to board longboat in Julau

    JULAU (June 28): A 75-year-old man reportedly fell into the river while trying to board a longboat at about 4.30pm yesterday.

    According to Julau police chief DSP Andam Sulin, early information received indicated the incident happened at Rumah Gerasi at Nanga Mujok.

    “In the incident, the victim was allegedly swept away by strong river current after he fell into the water.

    “A report about the incident have been lodged by the victim’s family members at Julau police station today,” he said.

    Andam said the longhouse is located about three hours’ journey using a longboat from Julau town.

    “We have instructed our personnel to go to the scene. We are also notified that Bintangor Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) have gone to the scene to conduct search and rescue (SAR) operation,” he added.

    Meanwhile, a Sarawak Bomba operations centre spokesperson said that Bomba Bintangor deployed three rescuers to the scene after they received a report on the incident at 9.35am today.
