KUCHING (June 5): Yayasan Petronas has distributed food aid and hygiene kits to 5,400 underprivileged families in the country under this year’s Sentuhan Kasih festive contribution during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai and Kaamatan.
Together with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) representatives, volunteers distributed food aid of rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, eggs, flour, condensed milk, sardines, cream crackers, glutinous rice, face masks and hygiene kits to needy families in Malaysia.
“Yayasan Petronas also packed two boxes of festive cookies specially made and delivered by 11 Program Mekar (Memampankan Ekonomi Asas Rakyat) participants to recipients in the Northern and East Coast regions.
“Meanwhile, seven local home-based bakers with registered businesses from the B40 communities in Sabah and Sarawak delivered cookies to the recipients in both states,” the foundation said in a statement.
In Perak, the two-day Sentuhan Kasih Aidilfitri implemented by Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) recently reached out to 400 families.
UTP vice chancellor Prof Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib handed over the contribution to 300 families in Lenggong and another 100 families in Perak Tengah at UTP campus.
“Yayasan Petronas remains committed in supporting the underprivileged community. The festive cookies are to bring joy to beneficiarie and boost income of Mekar participants during the festive season,” said Yayasan Petronas chief executive officer Nelly Francis Shariah in a statement.
The statement added that Mekar programme has trained 1,045 individuals in baking, sewing, carpentry and woodworking besides business and marketing through Northern Corridor Implementation Authority in Kedah, MyKasih in Kuala Nerus and East Coast Economic Region Development Council in the East Coast states.
Sentuhan Kasih is a yearly festive programme to spread joy and improve the quality of life for the underprivileged under Yayasan Petronas’ community well-being and development focus area in line with Petronas Sustainability Agenda and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
