KUCHING (July 2): Sarawak Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chief, Senator Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian, together with Saratok MP Datuk Ali Biju and Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, have given their backing for the government’s National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package (Pemulih).
According to them, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has shown his concern in listening to the grievances of the people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic by announcing the package.
“His concern clearly shows the seriousness and responsibility of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government towards the needs of the people who have lost their jobs, incomes and some whose business operations had to close due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” they said in a joint statement.
They said the government had taken seriously the views of various parties in helping to ease the economic burden of the people, and this very comprehensive stimulus package would benefit the people and various economic sectors, especially in Sarawak and Malaysia in general.
They also said the government’s effort through the Pemulih initiative found that all Malaysians, including B40, M40 and T20, were not left out.
“The announcement of a six-month moratorium facility for all borrowers and the withdrawal of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings on a monthly basis is the happiest news for all Malaysians because it clearly helps to ease the financial burden of the people.
“The new withdrawal facility from the EPF account, i-Citra, is quite significant in helping the needy people,” said the statement.
They said although there were objections to the EPF withdrawal, such as from MTUC, the government’s determination to make this a reality should be commended because it proves the government’s commitment to help the people.
They thus recommend that home and business owners take the opportunity but be prudent in their spending and financial management.
They also viewed the Pemulih initiative as having significant impact in helping to alleviate the financial burden of the people.
The initiative, such as Wage Subsidy Programme 4.0, Job Loss Assistance and Job Search Allowance, are among the government’s efforts to help workers and employers or business owners.
As for traders, especially SMEs, they also receive direct and indirect support through various assistance available in the Pemulih package.
“We also believe that assistance to SMEs is important because they are the lifeblood and important generator of the national economy.
They can certainly breathe a sigh of relief with some of the approaches taken to help them.
“They include reducing employer costs, supporting digitalisation efforts, providing financial assistance and tax incentives, providing financing facilities and pursue employment incentives,” said the statement.
Among others, the additional payments under the Special Caring Grant (GKP) 4.0 and the Wage Subsidy Programne (PSU) 4.0, are expected to benefit more than 2.5 million workers nationwide.
