Chong to call Soon Koh to testify in ‘blackhole’ case

    Chong Chieng Jen

KUCHING (July 2): State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen who is representing himself as lawyer in the ‘blackhole’ case said he would call former Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh to testify as a witness.

Chong, the Stampin MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, in a press statement yesterday said he was left with no choice but to subpoena Wong since the plaintiffs – the state government and State Financial Authority (SFA) – and CMS Berhad had managed to strike out Chong’s subpoena on Public Works Department (JKR) director Datu Zuraimi Sabki and CMS Group managing director Datuk Isaac Lugun.

“As the judge in the trial of the Sarawak Government vs Chong Chieng Jen’s ‘Blackhole’ case has struck out the subpoena issued to the director of state Public Works Dept (JKR) and CEO of CMS Bhd, it means they will not be required to attend court to give evidence in the ‘Blackhole’ case.

“I am now left with no other choice but to subpoena Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh who was then second finance minister to testify in the case relating to CMS Bhd and certain government contract,” Chong said.

The subpoena was filed and issued by the court yesterday afternoon, and attempt to serve was made immediately in Sibu on Wong but to no avail, he added.

Wong was part of the then Barisan Nasional (BN) state government. The state coalition quit BN after the last parliamentary election and formed Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Wong, the Bawang Assan assemblyman, now leads opposition party Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

Chong used the term ‘blackhole’ in 2013 to insinuate that some RM11 billion had gone missing from the state coffers, allegedly channelled into crony companies of the state BN.

This prompted the Sarawak government and the SFA to file a defamation suit against him.
