Go online to renew road tax, driving licences during MCO period

KUCHING (July 4): Vehicle owners and motorists in Sarawak are encouraged to renew their road tax and driving licence online during the current Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

According to the update on Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak’s official Facebook page, online renewal can be done via MySikap portal or here.

For online renewal of the road tax online, one would need to register an account for a standard MySikap ID.

“However, every vehicle owner is reminded to arrange for valid insurance policy before doing the licence-renewal online.

“The payment can be made using credit cards or via bank transfer,” said the department, adding that there is no need for the owners or motorists to collect their renewed road tax or driving licence during the MCO period.

“However, they must keep the payment receipt and may collect their road tax and driving licence documents from the JPJ counter at any time after the MCO.

“Those wishing to collect these documents now must arrange for appointments with the JPJ office prior to collection,” it said.

Meanwhile, motorists could still drive their vehicles with expired road tax during the MCO period, but their vehicles must have valid insurance coverage, said JPJ.

The Ministry of Transport announced the relaxation of the renewal of driving licence and road tax  that had expired between  June 1 and July 31 this year, in view of travelling restrictions during the MCO.
