SIBU (July 4): A vaccination centre (PPV) will be set up in Permai, a Covid-19 red zone here to fast track the vaccination programme, reveals Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) member Senator Robert Lau.
“I have submitted a name list of 2,000 people and hopefully to get Permai PPV going by end of next week.I have spoken to Sibu Divisional Health Officer Dr Teh Jo Hun who is considering Permai Health Clinic as PPV which would be finalised,” Lau told reporters when met at the site of the mobile PPV behind Rejang Medical Centre yesterday evening.
The mobile PPV started vaccinating 50 from the community at Tiong Hua zone on Friday with another 50 vaccinated yesterday.
Lau said together with a team of volunteers, they had gone door-to-door and covered Mahsuri Lane 1 and Huo Ping Road.
“Today (yesterday), I contacted Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu branch and we covered Hardin Road,” Lau disclosed as 90 per cent of residents there are from the Iban community.
He added that the response was very forthcoming and many in their thirties and forties want to be vaccinated with 100 registered for vaccination today.
“Our target is to vaccinate rural-urban migrants from Kapit, Song, Daro, Pulau Bruit and other places as soon as possible as they are living in Tiong Hua red zone,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek branch youth chief, Councillor Joseph Chieng said they had registered some 150 residents from Mahsuri Lane 1 and Jalan Huo Ping over the past three days by going door-to-door.
“So far, we have received good response from the residents as it it convenient for them. We may request for extension of the programme for a couple of days if we continue to receive good response,” chipped in SUPP Bukit Assek branch chairman Dato Chieng Buong Toon.
Political secretary to Chief Minister Michael Tiang was among those present at the mobile PPV.
