Lee speaks to reporters outside the school gates after casting her vote.
KUCHING (Dec 19): Age was no barrier for 88-year-old Lee Hie Ing who cast her vote at SK Garland for the Batu Kitang constituency yesterday.
Arriving at the school gates with her daughter around 9am, Lee was quick to be assisted by Election Commission (EC) officers who provided her with a wheelchair to ease her mobility at the centre.
“I feel very happy that I am able to vote today,” she said when met by reporters after casting her vote.
When asked how many elections she had voted in the past, Lee said she could not recall.
“However, I have been voting since young and in the last election, I cast my vote in the Mile 3 area,” she added.
She further said that in spite the Covid-19 pandemic, the standard operating procedures at the polling centre gave her ample assurance that it was safe to vote.
“I am confident to go out and vote despite the pandemic. This is also to fulfil my responsibility as a citizen.”
The polling centre at SK Garland was one of the voting centres for the Batu Kitang constituency.
