KUCHING (Dec 18): The achievement of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) in the 12th State Election is a clear shift of the people of Sarawak, its president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said.

He said the people, particularly the Chinese community, are against those who do not perform and keep to their promises.

“We always believe in telling the truth (and) hard work rather than mislead the people. That’s why you can see the sentiment of the people who are really angry and against opposition members.

“Even for some seats, which we had lost by 3,000 to 4,000 votes in the last state election, but this time around we lost by only a few hundred votes,” he told reporters when met at the announcement of results for the 12th State Election at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.

SUPP won 13 out of the 20 seats in the election, including Dr Sim who successfully defended his Batu Kawah seat.

Despite the achievement, Dr Sim said the party would not rest on its laurels.

“We got lots of work to do, because the people have entrusted us and for the next five years, I promises we will continue to fulfill our manifesto because politics is long term and not a publicity stunt,” he assured.

He said he would be going back to his constituency first thing tomorrow.

“Like the last election, I started working from day one and this time it is no different.

“That‘s my track record,” he said.

He thanked voters for their trust in SUPP and GPS.

“I together with my deputy president Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem representing the Bumiputera will continue to pursue the interest of the people like what our party has done since 1959.

“So I want to thank all the people even for seats we didn’t win. I still want to thank them for giving us a chance,” he said.
