Gloomy weather no deterrent to Bintulu’s early voters

Chiew cast his vote at 9.04am.

BINTULU (December 18): Voters in Bintulu woke up early today and braved the gloomy weather to cast their ballots.

The rains eventually stopped in time to give way to the voters to perform their rights.

The number of voters who turned up in the polling station at SJKC Chung Hua was a bit low this morning, probably due to the rain earlier.

However, as the rain stopped, more voters were seen at the entrance of the polling station.

Among those who greeted them was the Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate for Tanjong Batu Tony Chiew Chan Yew who arrived at around 8am.

There were also representatives from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) who also present to thank voters for their participation.

Chiew cast his ballot at 9.04am.

In speaking to reporters, he expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in making sure the 12th Sarawak election could be held smoothly and fairly.

“We encourage everyone to exercise their rights as a citizen to cast their votes as over the years we don’t always have a very high turn out.

“We hope that people will come out and practice their rights to promote democracy,” he said.

He added this state election was especially challenging for everyone as it was held when the country is still under threat of Covid-19.

A total of 22,391 voters are expected to cast their ballots today for Tanjong Batu constituency out of 22,743 eligible voters.
